Everything I Need to Know in Life
I Learned From My Toddler With DS
I'm not gonna lie, I got this topic idea from an article written in a local publication from our Down Syndrome Congress, where the editor listed all of things she had learned from her kindergartener with Down Syndrome. I'm stealing the idea! :)
* Playing with food can be as fun as actually eating it * Look at things from a different perspective; there is as much to be learned way down on the ground as there is 5 feet in the air * Don't eat dog fur, it's not easy to swallow * Smile and wave to strangers; you never know when you're making someone's day *
* Communication can come in many forms...your voice, your hands, or your eyes * It's okay to fall down a lot when you are learning something new * Clean clothes are overrated * Smile when you are requesting something, and you're more likely to get what you want * Read...a lot * Be nice to people * Share * Don't give up, because just when you're about to, you'll finally get it * It's okay to cry when you get hurt *
* Color like crazy outside of the lines...it's more fun that way * Swinging is very relaxing * Don't eat dog food either, it's a lot harder to chew than people food * Dance like a fool * Kisses really do make boo-boos feel better *If you're nice to your friends, they'll be nice to you * Laugh until you can't breathe * Hiding things is a lot of fun, but just don't forget where you put them * Good things come in little 22 lb, 30 inch packages*
*Walking barefoot in the grass is a lot more fun than walking around inside * Have confidence in yourself * Naps are fantastic (for those of us who can actually nap!) * Your life is just as important as anyone else's...don't forget that! * The best things in life are the ones that you never expected! *
