Sorry for the late update! No excuse, I just didn't get around to it until now!
Ty the ten-month-old is doing great! He had a great first Christmas, and got to visit all of his family! Santa brought him some good big-boy presents (and he ate the paper, of course)! He also celebrated his first New Year, and got to stay up until 8pm! :-) In the middle of the holidays, Ty had his first visit at the Down Syndrome Clinic at Boston Children's hospital. Basically, the clinic is a semi-annual comprehensive check-up, done by a team of doctors who specialize in Down syndrome. They look at all of the things that his pediatritian does at a check-up, except they look at and for things that are a little more specific. It was a long morning, but he saw a nutritionist, speech therapist, physical therapist, dentist, and doctor/geneticist. Most of the information that we were given just reinforced what we had learned from his regular PT, but it was good to hear that he's doing so well! The dentist said that he is getting several teeth in all different places, so we're just waiting for that first one to pop! Overall, he's a healthy little guy, and is moving through life at his own pace, which is great!
As far as milestones this past month, mastering sitting has been our big focus. He learned to sit at 8 months, so we've just been building his endurance. He can sit as long as he feels like it now, and can play with toys with both hands while he sits. I think just sitting there gets a little boring for him though...he's definitely more interested in rolling across the room to get into trouble! Even though he's not crawling, he has learned how to get into everything, and pick anything off the floor to eat...he's very curious! He "army crawls" in circles to get what he wants, but he hasn't figured out how to move forward yet. I have a feeling it's coming soon though. As for regular crawling, he hates hates hates being on his knees, so that's going to be a process! We are working more on standing though, which he can do if he's leaning against something like the couch or his table to play. He definitely prefers to stand instead of kneel! Ty's so funny though. I always think he's so far away from learning a new skill (like sitting), and he all of a sudden just does it one day. He's definitely full of surprises, so who knows what's next! No matter what he's doing though, he is full of smiles and laughs! He has a special "mommy smile" and "daddy smile", and absolutely loves the dogs! He learned how to "kiss" on the cheek, and leaves big wet circles all over our faces! He's such a great kid!!! :-)
Happy 2011!!!
