Our little sweetie-pie turned two months old yesterday! Has it seriously been almost 9 weeks since we met him, already?! As quickly as it's gone, Eric and I were commenting last night how it seems like he's been a part of our family forever. It's funny how a new little person can make his way into your life, and you instantly can't even remember what life was like before he came along. Having two little boys is such a blast, I can't imagine it any other way!
Brady's little personality has come out in full force this past month! The second his little eyes pop open, he greets us with the biggest, most genuine smile, like seeing our faces is exactly what he was waiting for! He "talks" up a storm ("ah-goo" is his most frequent word at the moment), and has a squeaky little giggle that can make anyone smile. He is just such a sweetheart!
His most exciting milestone this month is sleeping through the night!!! 3 times!!! Well, not consecutive nights, but I'll take what I can get! :-) He is also starting to show more interest in toys, and his surroundings. His playmat has lots of eye-catching designs that he loves to look at, and he especially enjoys staring at his cute little face in the mirror! In the past week he has started to bat at hanging toys, and has accidentally managed to grab them a few times! (I think everything he does is genius! haha)
The Bumbo seat has made an appearance this week also, which Brady loves! He must feel like such a big boy in there, because that smile spreads across his face and he kicks his little legs like sitting up is exactly what he wants to be doing!
It is such a blast watching this little guy grow, explore, and change every single day. Happy 2 Months, my little Brady-boo!

Life With Ty #26 - Tummy Time
Well, Ty is past that tummy time stage, but oh man, does he love when Brady does tummy time! The second Brady hits the floor, Ty is right down there with him. He gets right in his face, and flashes him huge smiles of encouragement...like he remembers all too well just how hard it is! Brady doesn't mind the wet circles that are left on his head from Ty's kisses, or the occasional "beep beep" that Ty does on his nose. He even tolerates the "practice burping" that Ty does on his back in imitation of me...three pats, rub in circles, three pats, and repeat.
Brady really is a good sport, and despite all of the well-intentioned pestering, he always lasts longer in tummy time with Ty's encouragement than he does with mine. Ty apparently gives that big-brother motivation that only he can provide! Brady sure is lucky to have such a supportive sibling!

Life With Ty #24 - Boys Will Be Boys
I'll let the pictures do the talking today. Football Sunday is one of the reasons why I just love being Mom to two little guys!!!
My #1 Boy!
He's so proud of the back of this...not only can he read his name, but he can also read the #1!
My #2 little boy (in order of course!). He looks like a linebacker in training, but I promise it's all the clothing! :-)
Brother time! Holding Brady always puts a smile on Ty's face... as does the opportunity to check out his hair and face!
Brady was all smiles hanging out with his big brother, too! I'm such a lucky mom!

Life With Ty #16 - Ty or Brady?
Let's play a little game...it's called "Ty or Brady?" Ready, set, go!

Okay, they don't totally look alike, especially in those last pictures...there are definite differences in their features, but there is no doubting that these boys are brothers! Before Brady was born, we really wondered what he would look like, and how much he would resemble Ty. Honestly, when your first child has Down Syndrome, there's always a part of you that wonders which features are inherited and which features are influenced by the 21st chromosome...at least that was something we had always wondered! As soon as Brady was born though, we instantly saw the resemblance...and I'm pretty sure Eric and I referred to Brady as "Ty" on more than one occasion! While there are subtle differences in their eyes and noses, I can honestly say that they look very much alike, Down Syndrome or not. (And they both look very much like their daddy...he must have some very strong genes!) Such handsome little guys!

One Month Old!
Happy one month to my littlest love! Throughout Ty's first year, I wrote a blog post with updates about his life on his monthly birthdays, which I still love to go back and read to see how much he's changed. Someday, when I have a bunch of free time (will that ever happen!?), I would like to print them for his baby book. Now that I have a new little one to navigate the first year with again, I'm excited to document Brady's first year, like I did Ty's.
I'm already amazed at how much Brady has changed in his short four weeks of life. He has gained nearly two pounds and grown a full inch in length. Newborn-sized clothes lasted only a week, and I have already had to take out the 6 month pajamas, because his long legs are poking through the bottoms of his 3 month ones! His little face has filled out and has taken on features nearly identical to his Daddy and big brother, Ty! He is absolutely beautiful.
After a stressful first three weeks of life, I can honestly say that we now have a brand new child, who is happy, comfortable and thriving. Despite my numerous efforts to eliminate foods from my diet while nursing him, and to treat Brady's silent reflux symptoms, he still spent much of his days squirming in discomfort, crying in pain, and having a very difficult time falling and staying asleep. It was heartbreaking to watch, because nothing I tried worked. Finally, I decided to try giving him formula instead; I had to know if it was breastmilk that he was reacting to, or something else entirely (there were several medical conditions that his doctor was considering testing him for, because we just couldn't pinpoint what was going on). Literally, after just two bottles of soy formula, Brady transformed into a new baby. For the first time in his little life, he was able to sit in my lap and just look around...no squirming, no crying, nothing. It was truly amazing. It was a really difficult decision for me to make, for many reasons. Breastfeeding is pushed hard on new moms, but what they don't tell you is that sometimes it's not the best for every baby. In our case, it wasn't. I'm so grateful for our supportive pediatrician, who agreed that formula is the best choice for Brady, so I am able to feel confident in what I am feeding him. And after finally having the chance to get to know my baby without the pain and discomfort, there's no looking back!
On his three-week birthday, Brady started smiling in response to our smiles and voices. He has the best smiles, and the cutest little voice that he uses to make noises when we talk to him. He is just such a sweet baby. When we hold him, he curls up in a tiny little ball against our chests, and will spend hours just snuggling if we let him! I'm still amazed that we were blessed with not one, but two, of the sweetest boys we could have ever asked for!
He doesn't have many interests at his ripe old age of 1 month, but he has definitely taken a liking to the whoozit toy that Ty was obsessed with also! We finally started doing tummy time in the last week, since he's been more comfortable, and he can already hold his head up a few inches off the ground for short periods of time. He is such a big boy!
So that's our little Brady in a nutshell! I have to say, being a mom to two little boys is pretty darn great! :)
